A friends’ association for the Musikkindergarten was founded by parents in 2014. It is formally registered as a non-profit association (e.V.) The annual fee for membership in the Friends’ Association is 30 euros.

In August 2014, the celebrated Artemis Quartett performed the inaugural benefit concert, a public dress rehearsal for a sold-out concert at the Berlin Philharmonic’s Kammermusiksaal.

Additional benefit concerts have included extremely successful recitals by Natalia Pegarkova and Michael Barenboim (June 2016), Martin Stadtfeld (December 2015), and Michal Friedlaender and Karl-Heinz Steffens (June 2014).

Proceeds from ticket sales for these concerts have been applied toward renovating the Musikkindergarten’s extensive garden, toward the expansion of the kindergarten’s facilities, and for the direct purchase of musical instruments for the children. These have included numerous guitars, percussion instruments (including a glockenspiel and log drums), and a viola. Heartfelt thanks!

The Friends’ Association consists not only of parents and grandparents of current kindergarten children but also of an ever-growing group of alumni parents, musicians, former staff, friends, and benefactors. We are a diverse and international circle, united in our shared conviction that music is essential to early childhood education.

The association’s benefit concerts have become wonderful occasions for spontaneous “alumni reunions.” As the Musikkindergarten’s first alumni begin to enter adolescence, we hope that they, too, will someday want to join the Friends’ Association as well. The Board of the Förderverein Alice Grabe (chair), Jens Füting (deputy chair), and Michael Klein (treasurer).
